Objective
To award
two $1,000 scholarships each May
(earlier if the Annual Meeting is held
prior to May) to students who are
pursuing a career in Health Information
Management.
Eligibility
-
Applicants must be enrolled in a
formal educational program for
Health Information Management
professions in the State of
Maryland. The American Health
Information
Management Association (AHIMA) must
accredit this program.

Students must be
entering their final year of study.

Applicants must have
35 hours with a cumulative grade
point average of at least 3.0 (on a
4.0 scale) OR 30 hours with a 3.0
average now and by the end of the
Spring semester will have 35
credits.
Application
Process
- Applicants must submit the prescribed
online application form.

Applicants must
submit an official transcript with
the application to the
President of the Maryland Health
Information Management Association
(MdHIMA) no later than May 10th. Incomplete or late
submission will not be considered, but
returned to the applicant.

Judging
The
scholarship recipients will be selected
by a committee comprised of the
President, President Elect, and the
Immediate Past President of MdHIMA. The
awards will be based on the applicant’s
grade point average, contribution to the
Health Information Management
profession, honors, awards, recognition,
and potential for leadership. MdHIMA
reserves the right to verify all
information submitted by the applicant,
and the right to request additional
references.
Awards
-
A representative of
the awarding party will present two
$1,000 scholarships to the
recipients from MdHIMA at the Annual
Meeting Luncheon.

Payment of the
award, in the name of the student,
will be sent directly to the
student’s educational program for
disbursement.

MdHIMA shall provide
registration fee and lunch for the
day of the meeting at which the
presentation is to be made.

Notification
of the scholarship shall be printed
on the MdHIMA website following the
presentation, media release will be
sent to the Baltimore Sun, and to
the hometown newspaper of the
recipient, as well as to the school
where the recipient is enrolled.
Relinquishment of Award
If, for any reason, the recipient does not
continue in Health Information Management educational program, the award shall be relinquished, and
the monies shall remain with the educational program.
