This document provides an overview of the Executive Board positions.
 

President-Elect
 

Term

Responsibilities Candidate Qualifications

1 year as President-Elect

Succeeded by 1 year as President

Succeeded by 1 year as Past-President.  During this timeframe, Past President also serves as one of the Directors for a term of 1 year.

 

Serves as an officer on the Executive Board.

Serves as a Delegate to AHIMA’s House of Delegates (HOD)

Attend designated Team Talks.

Chairman of the Finance Committee.

Chairs Board meetings in the President’s absence.

Attend CSA meetings. as requested.

Actively promotes the profession.

 

Active member of both MdHIMA and AHIMA.  Must be in good standing.

Must have experience in HIM

Must demonstrate leadership capabilities

Must have completed a full term in at least two different positions in any of the following areas, within the past 7 years:

  • On the AHIMA or MdHIMA Executive Board;

  • An officer of a regional association;

  • A committee chair of either AHIMA or MdHIMA.

Secretary

Keeps a permanent record of all the proceedings of all Executive Board and Association meetings.  .

 

Active member in good standing.

Must have previously participated on MdHIMA committees.

Must have HIM experience

Treasurer 
 

Term Responsibilities Candidate Qualifications
1 year

Receives income and approves disbursements of Association money.

Ensures accurate record keeping of accounts and financial records.

Provides quarterly reports to the Executive Board and renders an Annual Report.

Submits all books and records, annually, for audit purposes

 

Active member in good standing.

Must have experience in HIM.

Director

MdHIMA will have 3 Directors. Each year one (1) Director will be elected for a two-year term. The retiring President shall automatically serve as a Director for one year. There shall also be a first year director and a second year director.

Term Responsibilities Candidate Qualifications
Two (2) years

Attends all meetings of the Executive Board

Assists as directed with the Association business.

Represent MdHIMA at educational programs and/or regional meetings.

Keeps current with relevant trends in Healthcare and in the HIM industry

Is a voting member on the Executive Board.

Active member in good standing of AHIMA.

Previous participation on at least two different committees, or in an Executive Board position.

Demonstrated leadership.

HIM experience.

Delegate

There shall be 4 delegates; the President and President-Elect who shall serve as Delegates 1 and 2. There shall be two alternating delegates.

Term Responsibilities Candidate Qualifications
Two (2) Years.

Advocates for the members and the profession.

Gains knowledge on issues. Communicates and negotiates issues.

Attends House of Delegates. Seeks feedback from MdHIMA members on AHIMA and HOD activities.

Visits the State Leader and HOD Communities of practice on a weekly basis.

As outlined in the Bylaws:

  • Approves the standards governing the profession.

  • Elects the members of the AHIMA   Nominating Committee, except the Chairman and appointed members.

  • Advises the Board of Directors in the development and modification of association plans.

  • Approves dues

  • Levies special assignments.

  • Approves AHIMA Bylaws amendments.

  • Approves standing rules of the House of Delegates.

  • Approves resolutions.

Active member in good standing of AHIMA.

Previous participation on at least two different committees, or in an Executive Board position.

Demonstrated leadership.

HIM experience.
