Here it is – the end of May! This time of year is always filled with a variety of celebrations, new beginnings and endings. We celebrated Mother’s Day a few weeks ago and we’ll be celebrating Father’s Day in a few weeks, many are celebrating anniversaries in the popular wedding months of May and June, while others are making final arrangements for their upcoming wedding day, children are anticipating the last day of school, while seniors are looking forward to graduation day and moving on to a new college experience in the fall – the list goes on and on. MdHIMA is no different. MdHIMA is celebrating our successes and accomplishments of the past year, is preparing for a wonderful celebration at our Annual Meeting on June 5th and 6th at the Baltimore Convention Center, and we are also realizing that the year is quickly coming to an end. The many people who volunteered to serve in an elected position, or accepted responsibility for chairing or co-chairing a committee, or were a member of a committee or task force were simply AWESOME to work with this year! No task was ever too big or too small for this group of individuals. Everyone added value and stepped up to the plate when needed in order to serve our membership. As I see my year as President of MdHIMA coming to an end, I reflect on the events of the past year, both personally and professionally. I think of the hard work, the teamwork, the dedicated service of so many volunteers who helped our association to continue moving forward and I hope that you, our membership, realize and appreciate these efforts. I think of the support and kind words shared with me as I experienced the death of my Mother and the beginning of a new job. Throughout this past year I have seen so much sharing of knowledge, talents and passion for our profession and I have witnessed the bonds that are solidified through working and volunteering together – for this I am tremendously grateful. I wish much success to Dauna Mays, incoming President, and her 2008 – 2009 Board – I’m sure that they will do well. In closing out the year, I would like to thank each of you for providing me with the opportunity to serve as President of MdHIMA. I hope that I have served you well! Lori |
