Introduction:

This position has primary responsibility for the coordination and oversight of the HIM department, its operations and its activities, to include: Hospital coding, Provider charge verification & coding, Release of Information functions, records management, coding compliance, internal and external coding audits, birth registry, death registry, customer service, HIM vendor management, as well as other essential functions. The Director will plan and provide coaching, guidance and support to team members in order to reach their full potential.

Job Description:

The Director HIM is responsible for achieving goals and key performance indicators including: Coding Quality, Unbilled AR days, timely submission of Hospital & Professional claims, oversight of delinquent medical records, compliance with Death Certificate and Birth Certificate completion. This position works closely with others to ensure quality and timely submission of monthly & quarterly HSCRC data submissions.

This role works collaboratively with Medical Staff members, the Medical Staff Office and Senior Leadership on all projects, workflows, and issues that relate to medical record documentation, records management, division expenses, employee productivity, client satisfaction, employee satisfaction, etc.

Required Qualifications:

Experience – Minimum of 5 years of HIM leadership role in an acute care setting.

Licensure/Certification – RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) certification or RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician)

Education Qualifications:

Associate’s degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred in Health Information Management or related field
