Responsible for training all new coding Associates as well a on-going training of current coding Associates. Conduct coding audits for the department with reports prepared for the Director to present to Corporate Compliance Committee monthly. Ability to abstract all inpatient (INP, PSY) and outpatient (ASC, DSC, DPM, OAC, LDO, CLI, WOU, SAP, PHP, ORP, MRM, CAR) and emergency room records (EMR, ERQ) to assign appropriate ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT and HCPCS codes; abstract elements to submit complete and accurate information for billing and HSCRC requirements and “special study” screens. Manages all contracted external coding audits with the coding Associates to review and reconcile questions/concerns. Ability to work with Coding Associates on training and implementation of ICD-10 coding system. Works collaboratively with CDI Department, and specifically with the outpatient CDS to improve physician documentation.
Prior experience required, Minimum of three years of recent coding and abstracting in an acute care setting with one to three years experience of informal or formal teaching experience required. Strong interpersonal skills to maintain effective relationships with other professionals
CCS – Certified Coding Specialist Required
High School Diploma, Ability to abstract and code medical records at a level normally acquired through completion of a college program in Medical Records Technology or Administration or AHIMA independent study program or the combination of knowledge and experience.
